My astronomer colleague Göran Henriksson and I have
published 'Minos enneoros: Archaeoastronomical light on
the priestly role of the king in Crete, in Religion and
power in the ancient Greek world, Proceedings of the
Uppsala Symposium 1993 (Boreas 24. Uppsala studies in
ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern civilizations).
Further and related reports on Aegaean archaeo-astronomy
will appear in the Opuscula Atheniensia beginning this
year.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE 2nd SIS CAMBRIDGE CONFERENCE
I am delighted to announce that Robert Matthews
will deliver the keynote address of the SIS Cambridge
Conference on the opening night of the meeting [Friday,
11th July 1997].
Robert Matthews is Science Correspondent of The Sunday
Telegraph and was the first national newspaper journalist
to report the growing evidence for historical impacts.
After reading physics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford,
he has worked for many newspapers, magazines and
journals, including The Times, New Scientist and Science.
He is also Visiting Fellow in the Department of Applied
Mathematics at Aston University, Birmingham, and has
published research on the effects of passing stars on the
Oort Cloud, the dynamics of Proxima Centauri - and the
cosmic mystery of why toast tends to land butter-side
down.
He is the author of "Unravelling the Mind of God:
Mysteries at the Frontier of Science" (London: Virgin
Books, 1992).
